Biography of Bishop Alfred Nwaizuzu
Bishop Alfred Nwaizuzu is a distinguished retired Anglican Bishop currently residing in the Retired Anglican Bishop's Court in Atlanta, USA. He also maintains a home in the Retired Anglican Bishop's Court in Okigwe, Nigeria.
Education and Early Career
Bishop Nwaizuzu's academic journey began at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics between 1963 and 1967. His theological studies took him to India, where he attended the theological college in Bangalore and graduated in 1975 with a first-class diploma in theology. He furthered his theological education at the theological college in Serampore, North India, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor’s in Divinity.
Ecclesiastical Career
In 1976, Bishop Nwaizuzu was ordained as a priest. His dedication and service to the church led to his appointment as Canonin 1988, and in 1993, he was made an Archdeacon. His spiritual journey culminated in 1994 when he was consecrated as the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Okigwe-North, a position he held until his retirement in 2009.
Educational Contributions
Alongside his ecclesiastical duties, Bishop Nwaizuzu was a passionate educator. He taught mathematics in various schools from 1961 to 1979 and served as a principal from 1980 to 1993, shaping the minds of many students with his knowledge and dedication.
Ongoing Work and Contributions
In retirement, Bishop Nwaizuzu continues to contribute to theological scholarship by writing commentaries on Ephesians, Romans, and Hebrews. He has published a book in Amazon book store in USA. He is a life member of the Bible Society of Nigeria and served for a decade as the Chairman of the Budget & Investment Committee of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. His service also extended to the Superannuation Board of the Anglican Dioceses East of the Niger, and he was a visiting teacher at St. Paul's Theological College, Awka, and Trinity Theological College, Umuahia.
Recognition and Missionary Work
Bishop Nwaizuzu’s contributions have been recognized with an award of honor from the Bible Society of Nigeria on 24th March 2015. His missionary work took him to Sudan for a few years, and he also spent time working in the United Kingdom and Israel.
Personal Life
Bishop Nwaizuzu is married to Esther, and they are blessed with seven children: Peter, Mary, Moses, Emmanuel, Amara, Chibuzor, and Ezinne. His late father, Isaac Nwaizuzu, was also a church teacher, and all his siblings have served in various capacities within the church. He currently worships at All Saints Anglican Church in Atlanta.
